Just a thought. When you first powered up the P3, did you do a power-
up initialisation? i.e. hold down F1 and keystep 7 at the same time 
as applying power. This will clear out any garbage from the RAM.

It's an easy step to forget, but vital to getting the P3 to work 
properly.
