The functionality Duncan mentioned here is a recent addition and something I'm still tweaking. The logic behind it is that if you have controller keyboard that has assignable knobs on it, you may have them assigned to control a number of different synths on different midi channels, so you don't want controllers being re-directed to the midi channel of a track in record mode. The build Duncan has only re-directed note messages in record mode. I've since grouped notes, bend, aftertouch and program change together - they will be redirected to the midi channel of a recording track, but controllers will pass thru as per the normal midi thru settings. Not sure if that's more sensible than just re-directing notes - it seems like they should be grouped so you don't unexpectedly apply afertouch or bend to a different synth than the one you are recording for...
