It could be the JV1080 is giving you a spurious error.
If the TI can sync to a MIDI clock signal, you could verify the sync PIC is
working properly.
Breaking the outer pins from a MIDI cable would also ensure that the DIN
sync signals can't be causing a problem with the 1080, but it really
shouldn't be doing anything with those pins anyway...
