MIDI sync output error

MIDI sync output error

2006-12-30 by niels_jitterbug

Hi,

when connecting a synth at the Sync output, I get a 'MIDI
communication error' on the synth. I've got board v 1.5 and would like
the MIDI as well as the DIN sync option. So I soldered R36, R24, R25
and two diodes on D2 and D3, but omitted the resistors on D4 and D5.
Then I soldered ALL resistors and wire bridges on the I/O board. Is
this correct ?

When this problem persists, I'm happy to just use Midi sync...

Standard MIDI interfaces shouldn't use pins 1 and 3 (the outermost pins),
and these are the only ones carrying DIN sync.
Does the sync output work with a different MIDI device for MIDI clock ?

No, my JV-1080 gave an error and my virus TI simply didn't care, no
reaction...So when I cut off the outermost pins of a MIDI cable, I'll
be fine ?

It could be the JV1080 is giving you a spurious error.
If the TI can sync to a MIDI clock signal, you could verify the sync PIC is
working properly.
Breaking the outer pins from a MIDI cable would also ensure that the DIN
sync signals can't be causing a problem with the 1080, but it really
shouldn't be doing anything with those pins anyway...
