The CV bus appears as if it were another MIDI in/out port with a CV
convertor attached.
The obvious difference being the communication speed is much higher, so
there is no audible latency.

It would be rather a waste to do so, and I shouldn't really allow it on
principle, but the soft-thru routing would allow you to forward the messages
from a MIDI input to the CV output port, so it could act as a MIDI to CV
convertor.
If you've got a spare 303 lying around, I do the MIDIBass interface for
those that allow you to use them as a CV convertor too ;-)
