OT: Tempo Issues with G-Major

OT: Tempo Issues with G-Major

2004-06-06 by Phil Smillie

Greetings all...
I've been on the forum for a while (i got my boards 'n
bits... no time to build!) and while we're on a tempo
tip i thought i'd throw my problem in, see if anyone
else has this or similar problems with TC Electronics
G-Major (although i'm told D-two works in the same
way). I can't seem to set the tempo to the exact bpm I
need in some cases... 120 bpm no problem (bit slow for
me though!) but 142? no way.. 141.9 or 142.2! Similar
probs at most whole number bpm's. When I hit it with
midi clock, no difference, seems to flop between 141.9
and 142.2 :(
I suspect clock/multiplier issues here.. anyone with a
D-two having similar issues?
regards,
Phil.

Where are you seeing the readout of the tempo ? Is it on the display of
the G-Major, showing the tempo of incoming sync ?
Generally devices receiving sync will have a timer value of the time
between two clock ticks, and will do an integer long division to get the
actual tempo value.
Maybe the device doesn't have the timer resolution or arithmetic
accuracy in the calculation of tempo to get closer to the actual value
than the numbers it is displaying.

Cheers,
Colin f

Hi Colin, I've been playing about with it all weekend and i've come
to the conclusion that you're right about the timer resolution etc..
It seems it "counts" in milliseconds rather than bpm's leading to the
discreprancies i've noted.
Sad Innit???
