Another impressive suggestion

Another impressive suggestion

2004-06-11 by Hans Greuber

Hi;

I would like to suggest something to make the P3 an irrepetible piece of
step heaven,cathing the best from the MC-202;

To use the buttons to enter the lengh note,eg.  1 press could be 1/16 note;
yellow led ,2 pressings will be 1/8 note ; red led,3 pressings will be 1/32
,4 pressings silence blue light and so on...

Think about this Collin, I will donate some $$ for this cause if needed (
joke,but serious with the suggestion)

When I bought the P3 kit ,I thought that the lenght row was actually this
way ; knob clockwise was 1/16,12 o´clock position; another lenght and son
on, but it is actually the sustain midi controller ( or something like that)

This mode could be also incluided,but like in the Doepfer MAQ 16-3 it is
very dificult to get a perfect bar or half a bar,so the button option will
be better and  absolutely amazing

Do you agree pals?

Best;

Hans

The downside of this is that when you're trying to get to an 8th note, but
go past it and hit 8* (dotted 8th) then you have to go all the way through
the rest of the choices to get back to 8th. :)

That would be too big a change to the interface I think.
But it's possible there may be some way to provide a shortcut that sets
a group of steps to the same note, sets their gates on and automatically
ties them.
But there is already a way you can edit the note length on each step.
The aux events 'set norm tbase' and 'set trplt tbase' can be used to
vary the tbase, i.e. length of one step, on every step of a pattern.
The values are not displayed as tbase values, but you should be able to
judge by ear how long each note is.

someone's probably already suggested this, but you could use the
futureretro mobius method for chaining patterns... you hold down the first
key, and then press whatever key you want the length to be... for example,
holding down the first key and hitting key 8 will create a half note.
holding down the first key and hitting key 2 will create a half note. a
sixteenth could be created by just hitting the first button once in
whatever special mode this ends up being...

Problem with that is that I like to activate multiple steps at the same
time.
For instance, if I go into a blank pattern that I want all steps on,
I'll press the lower 8 keys together then the upper 8 keys together.
It would be a pain to have to press each key individually to prevent
them getting tied together.
Potentially I could make it a secondary function of FUNC+step keys - so
that if you press FUNC+ a single step key, it shows you the step data as
normal, but if while holding FUNC and the first step key you press
another step key, it ties all the steps between.
The problem with that would be the need for three hands if you want to
tie the whole bar together (hold FUNC + step 1 + step 16)

Cheers,
Colin f

Not on *my* P3 :-) The FUNC key plys step 16 are close enought to each
other for the right hand :-)))
