MIDI CC's...

MIDI CC's...

2005-09-08 by DJ Paris Lee

Now things are getting interesting!

Getting into the whole MIDI CC assignments thing...wicked!

Question 1:

So I understand you get 4 CC's per track...does this mean if I want
to have control a large
number of parameters on just one synth...I could send all 8 sequencer
tracks to the same
synth..therefore controlling 32 MIDI cc's?

Question 2:

I have two playlists...both have the same CC assignments...Is it
possible to edit one playlist
without affecting the other *if you are cycling through them
simulataneously* (For
example: earlier I was cycling through two playlists...went to edit
mode on 1 and was
sculpting the Filter Cutoff...it seemed to affect the filter cutoff
info for the other playlist as
well...of course the sounds were pretty wild and it might have just
been my mind playing
tricks on me)..

You could, though if you send 32 CC messages on the same step you might
discover what MIDI latency is...
Another alternative is to use a pair of auxes on a single track - set aux A
to the event 'aux B = cc #n', and you can use the value of aux A to choose
the controller number for aux B. Then set the values on aux B as normal.
This lets you send any controller number in a single pattern, with the
obvious limit of only sending one or two controllers per step (using A and B
paired, plus C and D paired).
If you want some fun, you could use aux A to randomize the value of aux C,
and aux B to randomize the value of aux D.
The assign aux C to 'aux D = cc #n', and you will get random controller
numbers sending random values, within a range of your choice.

CC assignments are in patterns - I'm guessing you mean patterns when you say
playlists ?

Hmm.
It could be you have the same pattern in two different playlists - I'm not
entirely clear what you're doing so I can't say if its all in your mind, or
your P3's.

Oh yes. You can even control more than that using a special Aux event
(e.g. Aux B = cc#n) so that - in this example - every step sends a
different CC! Do that and in one pattern you could send 32 different
CCs, albeit just one value of each CC for each step.

Remember that a playlist is just a way of playing the track's patterns
in different orders. You get a playlist for each track and these are
stored in each part.
