New Pictures Up

2003-10-13 by Andy Wilson

Hi All,

Just collected my Hammond case from Steve Thomas this
weekend. Spent Sunday shoe-horning all the boards in.

Here's the results. Pretty damn cool.

Looking good, Andy.
I like the idea of a single rectangular hole for the DIN sockets - why
didn't I think of that...

Cheers,

Looking great Andy!

Okay... It sounds like it's time for me to finally get into building mine!
It's been sitting here forever, waiting on me to find time! (oh gawd, that
almost rhymes!)

I have a question.. I don't remember this being explicitly talked about on
the forum, but is Steve Thomas now sourcing pre-cut cases to folks? One of
the things I've been dragging my heals for in starting in on the building
is that I don't have a case to mount it in.

Does anyone have an email address handy for Steve? I'd need him to source
the case, cut it, and ship it across the Atlantic.

Thanks!

Mark

Hi Mark,

Steve is not actually sourcing the cases, but if you provide it, he'll
do the drilling and engraving at a very reasonable rate.

Check out:

http://monopole.ph.qmul.ac.uk/~thomas/synthdiy/cnc.htm

for contact details.

If you look back through the archives, Paul Maddox gave the
Hammond part number of the case with the walnut end cheeks,
sometime in August. Can't remember what it is now. (Too lazy to
look!).

All the best

Andy

Nice work!

How did it all go?
Any problems with the holes? I think I remembered to send Steve all the
changes needed.

my thoughts exactly. so i'm going to move it and plug the hole soon.

Hi Paul,

Back from your hols then?

Steve implemented all the changes he received, but I found that I
still needed to hack 5mm of of the bottom of the keypad board
because it was fouling the upper pot board.

Also the some of the step switches and keypad switches would jam
so I had to get the file out and enlarge some of the holes. I reckon
the switch holes should be enlarged by 1mm to allow for a bit of
'slop'.

Mounting of the boards is made easier by enlarging the pcb
mounting holes so that the boards can be wiggled a bit on the
pillars.

So, all in all, it was not as straightforward as I'd hoped, but with a bit
of fiddling, end results are pretty good.

I did pass this info on to Steve, but it might be worth getting in touch
with him to confirm that he has all your mods.

Nice layout though Paul, so thanks for that. I know Colin has
reservations about not having the function switches directly
underneath the display, but I don't find that a problem.

All the best

I would, personally, but I'd also say that the tempo knob should be
somewhere way away from the buttons cos my hands are permanently
resting on the buttons...

Andrew,

nope, just reading my e-mail from Spain :-)

blast, I forgot about that..
I mounted the pot board upside down and soldered wires on to reverse the 0v
and 5v end.

Hmm, I thought this could be the case, the holes were already 1mm wider
trhan before.. I guess they need to be 11.5mm, Drop Steve an e-mail and let
him know.

I didn´t use pillars, I used long screws :-)

Cool..

ok thanks.

I takesa little getting used to, but I think the end result is worth it :-)

Ah, so that's how you did it. I just got the hacksaw out, but it meant I
had to cut through the bottom two keypad mounting holes though.
Not too much of a problem, as the keypad is wedged so tight against
the pot board, that I could fit a couple of 3mm nuts on long screws to
keep everything in place. (A photo would be handy here to explain
that last paragraph!)

Have done.

Have fun on the beach.
