Off Topic... looking for parts for a hurt TR-606

2007-03-24 by Steven Clements

Hi folks...

Does anyone have links or references to replacement parts for the Roland
TR-606. I'm in need of replacing the buttons as they stick. Wouldn't
mind having a go at the Volume knob as well as it's scratchy.

I'd like to clean this little gem up before I attempt any mods.

Robin White had some references on his site but they are out dated and
led no where now.

Colin, does your 303 MIDIBass work in a 606?

thanks in advance you guru's you...
Steven

The buttons are standard tact switches.
A number of manufacturers make ones that will fit fine, though in some cases
the square projections that the caps fit onto may need a little persuasion
with a file to let the caps on.
I use Diptronics switches from Rapid.

You can get the volume knob from Chipforbrains on eBay, though you may find
just stripping the pot down, cleaning it out thoroughly with solvent, the
re-lubricating it befroe re-assembly will give you several years more use
out of it - it depends on whether the track is worn out, or just dirty.

No, it's very specific to the 303.
I have just finished building a MIDI to trigger board though, that would
work a treat in a 606.
Come to think of it, I should probably put one in mine...

MIDI to trigger board? Is this a PCB you plan to release? I've got
a few DR-110s looking for a MIDI input

Are these going to be positive trigger pulses or v-trig? Also, will
the trigger voltage be proportional to velocity? Accent capability?

I may be VERY interested in your project!!

I've planned to do a MIDI to trigger board for ages, but got finally round
to it recently when someone I know needed one.
I'll get some PCBs made if there is interest.

The board is designed to be as generic as possible.
There are 8 trigger outputs, though a 16 output version would be a simple
addition.
Each output generates a trigger voltage between 0 and 14 volts, with a pulse
length programmable in increments of 0.1ms.
Each output can be assigned a MIDI channel and note number to respond to,
plus a minimum and maximum pulse voltage and length.
The actual value of output voltage and pulse length will then be scaled
between their minimum and maximum values based on the velocity value.
MIDI CC messages will allow the config values to be adjusted on the fly, to
allow the optimum settings for a given drum circuit to be found by
experimentation.
Sysex commands will then write permanent settings.

Brilliant! [:D] Thank you Colin.

Which Diptronics tact switch do you order from Rapid?

I've sent off an email to chipforbrains on eBay as well!

cheers

I would certainly be interested in adding Midi to my TR-606, & my Tama
Techstar TS-306 could use one as well.

Order no. 78-0640
Remember not to force the caps onto these if they don't look like fitting -
give the switch a little file down on two faces.
