Hello!

I finished most of my kit, it boots and when i not hold down run it just flickers and when i hold play it delivers din-sync but i can do much more. Will get it checked up tomorow, anything speciall to look up?

I assembled most boards exept mainboard, and i think i got em right... anyway... it will be fun to play it later!!

Tryed transfer the bootloader, and the P3 says Bad data! This means?

Tryed diffrent midiinterfaces and programs, on my mac.

First thing to do is a power-on initialise.
Hold F1 + step key 7 at power on.
Then press F1 and F2 to confirm the memory wipe.
I'd also recommend bringing the bootloader up to date, then loading the
latest OS.
V3.89 is old...
You can find the bootloader update in the Yahoo files section.

There are a couple of common causes of bad data.
First is that there is not enough gap between sysex blocks.
There should be somewhere you can configure that in your app, but I'm no Mac
user so I cant help.
Another common cause of bad data is a feedback loop between MIDI IN and OUT.
P3 sends an ACK for each sysex block it receives, but if it is sent its own
ACK back by MIDI soft-thru, it will give bad data.

I had a look at enapas P3 kit today and noticed that he's got an old kit with a 18MHz crystal. This means that the firmware available for download will not work since it is for running the AVR at 24MHz as far as i know.

The problem is that it will only run the first step in every pattern. If you skip the first step, it will just repeat the second step... Editing/clearing the patterns have no effect to this behavior.

We tried the CPU from my P3 in his kit and everything worked except MIDI since running my CPU at 18MHZ means that MIDI will be scrambled up.

We also tried his CPU in my P3 and we got it running there, a bit surprisingly, at least after clearing the patterns, they seemed to have skips on every single step.
Unfortunately since the firmware in his CPU is for running at 18MHz we could not update anything there either.

My conclusion right now is that he needs a new crystal(24MHz) and an updated CPU with a modern firmware.
I only have an STK-500 development board and it can not read this specific CPU, I wanted to try to flash his with the contents of mine.

Is it possible to buy a new CPU with the newest firmware and bootloader, or is there another way of flashing the one he has(some special FW)?

No, the later CPUs at 24MHz have a different bootloader.
There's a byte in the bootloader that defines the clock frequency, and the
code adjusts as needed.
At boot, the later code will show either 18 or 24 in the top right of the
display.
That number must match the crystal frequency.
Note that the CPU is not an AVR - it is made by Atmel, but the CPU is an
enhanced 8051.
