P3 Display

2010-01-28 by fb0y2002

Hi Colin,

I bought a new p3 display off you maybe 6 months back, but its been getting dimmer and dimmer, very slowly, over the last couple of months - I leave my p3 on a lot, but that really shouldn't kill it so quick..
Any clues, or should I just get another ? It's pretty unreadable during daylight hours now.. Mine is a pre-production model #004, hopefully its nothing up with the p3..

Cheers,

Is it the backlight that's getting dimmer, or the contrast of the characters
on the display ?
If it's the backlight, have you got the right resistor value in R19 ?
It should be 47ohms for the white on blue LCD displays.
A lower value would let more current through the backlight, which could
cause the LEDs to age prematurely.
If it's the contrast, it could just be that the trimmer on the mainboard
needs to be adjusted.

Hi Colin,

Many thanks for the reply.. Its not the contrast, as I've had a good play with the trimmer - as for the resistor, well this model already had a resistor in r19, (its the black pre-production unit #004)
and to be fair, it didn't cross my mind to check the value of the resistor when I put the display in, I guess I'll pull it apart tomorrow and have a look.. sounds like I'll be needing another display though..
