The production units will be finished in a slightly textured black
powdercoat finish.
The legends will either be white, or possibly orange.
Photos of the sample production unit are up now:

Orange - to offset the white & black.

Looks drool worthy.

I prefer the white accents. The addition of orange would look really busy.

RE: [analogue-sequencer] Re: Cirklon pre-order

2010-08-22 by Benjamin Krupa

I'm wondering, isn't the frontplate tick enough to use Flathead screws? Allen screws would also be way more aesthetic. I don't know if the cases have been painted by now, but if it isn't too late to countersink those holes, it would make the unit look way more profesionnal. It won't stop me from buying one though.

Other than that, the new text/outlines layout is perfect (I prefer white over orange). Can I ask how many people are on the list up to now?

Sounds brilliant...Won't white ink fluoresce sufficiently even if it's not a fluorescent based ink?

I agree 100% about the screws.
Allen flathead would be lot more beautiful and consistent with design and
functionality..

I'd choose orange for legends, I think the contrast with the white buttons
and blue display will be nice, and give more readability.

RE: [analogue-sequencer] Re: Cirklon pre-order

2010-08-22 by Colin Fraser

The pozi screws are just what I had in stock.
Final units will most likely use the same allen head screws I used on the
prototypes.
I only had enough of those for the I/O board fixings - have a look next to
the sockets, compared to the fixings round the panel edge:
http://www.sequentix.com/images/cirklon/ck-1-02.jpg

Countersunk screws require much more precise alignment of the holes on the
panel with the captive nuts underneath - that is hard to achieve on the
chassis where the nuts are on flanges that are folded from edges of the
bottom face.
I know of a few cases where the screw heads on P3s got stripped because of
binding threads, which then required drilling out.

I intend to use white ink for the screening if the factory can source a
fluorescent white ink.
I want to make the legend fluorescent to give good visibility using UV on
otherwise dark stages.

I'd go for orange - should look a bit more stylish and characterful than
all black and white IMO

Ah ok, rounded allen head screws looks good..

About the colors, yes, but what if there is not UV?

Only kidding, I'd prefer orange for style/appearance too,
but its not a huge issue for me anyway.

The production units will be finished in a slightly textured black
powdercoat finish.
The legends will either be white, or possibly orange.
Photos of the sample production unit are up now:

Am I the only one who doesn't give a crap about what color it is, or what
kind of screws it has? I'd buy it even if the entire body was painted neon
green with purple and yellow dots, and flower-shaped screws.

...Ok, that would be pretty ugly. But you get my point. I just want a
Cirklon.

That being said, Sequentix's attention to detail is really quite impressive
- I can already tell that the second I get it, it's gonna knock me off my
feet. September can't come soon enough...

Orange? Really?
That's what it would look like: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4676540/Cirklon.png
Do you guys really like this kind of color mix? White simply looks better imo.

That being said, John is right. The look doesn't matter. The welds on my SidStation are pretty ugly and I couldn't care less.
I'll get a Cirklon and be happy I did no matter what.

I dont like the orange for one reason: visibility in low light
situations. The while will be much more visible on stage, which is
where I intend to put the Cirklon to most of its use.

Re: [analogue-sequencer] Re: Cirklon pre-order

well, I think I changed my opinion, that does seem quite a reddy full-on
kind of orange and is not very nice. I would think of something
creamier... in fact maybe a kind of off-white ivory colour would be
nicer than either orange or hard plain white

and, ermm, whose fooling who here? Of course the the look matters - that
perfectly foul orange was one reason I could never bring myself to buy a
waldorf XT - we're all gonna spend months and years staring these things
after all.

99% of all black music boxes for racks and black synths uses white legend/letters period. With that in mind, the choice should be easy. Colin if you want to make the Cirklon TASTEFUL and in harmony with industri standards, make it black with white legends. It's ugly when a rack is blended with "100's" of colors (my opinion at least). The special white which also reflect black light is brilliant.

I was thinkging more something like this, on the top:
[sorry for crappy color-selection, only to give the idea]

http://yhr95gdcd.com/cirklon/cirklon0.html

Anyway, dont know, I'm fine with both white and orange, there are equivalent
pros & cons IMO.

White, the orange looks awful and even if it fluoresces most of the time it
isn't going to be under black light. White glows under black anyhow.

Please, don't paint the legends in orange, it will look like old-fashioned in a couple of months. White is perfect and looks more proffesional.

Thanks.

Re: Cirklon pre-order

2010-08-29 by srmaietta

I know everyone's saying white, white white, but I vote for bright orange.. Or neon yellow. the funkier, the better : )

regardless, drooling over it!!!
