Mem-x Upgrade and formerly stored P3 sequences....

2010-09-05 by bob_at_work_2000

Does anyone the best procedure to do the mem-x upgrade and yet keep the old sequences I have in the P3 unit? Do I have to do a P3 dump to my computer, do the upgrade, then restore back to the P3? Is there another way?

Thanks

bob- depends if you are already using v4, in which case I think the answer is to use the sys-ex route. I'm not sure if the p3 tools app works with v4....

Forgot that aspect....I am on OS v3.1.006.

OK, so do I upgrade the OS first?

If you are using v3, I *think* you can take a dump of the memory, then
upgrade it to v4 format using P3 Tools 2 - but it's a long time since I used
it.
P3 needs to be running v4 to make use of the extra memory with MemX, though
there is a patched version of v3 that will work with it.

Colin, where is that version of v3 that allows you to have the MemX board installed. I'm still on v3 (v3.1.007b) as I'm very happy with it. I also have the MemX board but have never installed it, as it is incompatible with all versions of v3 I've seen. I remember you talking about patching a version that would allow a MemX board to be installed (nonfunctional of course) but I never saw a link to download it.
I'd really love to have that patched V3 and install the MemX board. Thanks!

Re: [analogue-sequencer] Mem-x Upgrade, OS 4.5 upgrade, Vista and formerly stored P3 sequences....

2010-09-07 by Bob S.

OK...I got through the first steps. I was able to dump and save my P3 memory to my PC using MidiOx. I also installed P3 Tools2 on my studio PC, a Vista 64 machine. It turns out I don't need to install MS .NET Framework on a Vista PC, the tools seem to work fine. I was able to capture the memory using the P2 Tools2 using that setup.

Next step was to load the new v4.5 OS to the P3. That did not work. After selecting the OS file using the FW option of the Tools2, a few seconds later I get "Failed: Retransmissions Exceeded" I have the simple 1x1 MIDI interface on the P3 MIDI in and MIDI Out #1....is that right? Seems like the handshake loop is timing out.

I will check the archives and see if anyone else got this error.....

According to the release notes v3.1.007b is compatible with Memx (non
functional)...

OK....any recommendations/ideas here? Should I do this on an XP PC instead? I tried the P3Tools version 1.x and it timed out after 14 tries....I see transmit and receive activity on my 1x1 USB MIDI interface....

I've only ever tried it on an XP machine. I can't recall the detail but from
memory I got similar errors and had to fiddle a bit to get it to work. I
think the issue was that I had a midi merge box in the loop, direct
connection of the P3 to my midiman pc interface sorted it.

Bob,

Are you booting the P3 into firmware update mode ?
It wont accept a firmware upgrade in the normal sysex bulk receive.
Just in case you missed that in the manual...
Did you hold FUNC + PAGE as you powered on, then press 'flash' ?
