LFO RS85 question

LFO RS85 question

2010-08-03 by bennethos

Hi,

I bought the RS85 and I'm not that satisfied with it. Not because of the module but because I'm used to having 1 pot to control the LFO frequency. (Like the commercial synths have...)

For instance I want to create A very fast to very slow sweep in a full anti-clockwise turn.
This is not possible with this module, I have this switch next to the pot that needs to be set in high, mid or low mode...

Think this module is more meant for fine-tuning of frequency instead of sweeps.

Any idea what I could buy as a second LFO ?
My requirements are :

1 potmeter for the LFO frequency
1 CV-IN that controls the LFO frequency.
If possible -> EURORACK

Kind regards,
Benjamin

What is the maximum and minimum frequency you desire?

Would this do the trick? Know nothing of this module or the company

From very fast to 0 without any switches in between.
One elegant motion of 330° full right to full left.

Hope I'm clearer now ;-)

Yep thats what I mean :-) thx

Like they say : BROAD RANGE... not with 3 switches in between ;-)

No LFO does zero.
Define "very fast." 30Hz? 60Hz? 1000Hz?

Another solution could be voltage control. The AS joystick has a big
voltage range: -10 to +10 V. This could get you the sweep you need.

Another idea, way out of left field, would be the new reissue of the Oberheim SEM (the patch control version).

http://www.tomoberheim.com/

Oberheim's were, I believe, desirable because of their ability to perform "vicious" filter sweeps. I assume you would get the capability of a "fixed architecture" synth, which you could patch into a modular (you would probably need a convertor module or adaptor to use with eurorack) although having never seen one of these, not sure you could patch the LFO out independently - next months UK Sound on Sound mag promises a review.

Actually, im being thick, why not get the AS RS 95E

http://www.analoguesystems.co.uk/pdf/RS95-95E.indd.pdf

This has a range of 0.3Hz to 17kHz.in wide range mode and would work as an LFO if used as a CV source rather than signal output. I have the 95E in my system and it's ace!

0.2Hz to 10Hz should suffice.

0.005Hz to 10Hz would be more like it. almost zero ;-)

The higher frequency needs to stay inaudible (no vco function)

probably beyond my budget :-), but I always read SOS of course. Will be intresting reading the review.

If the switch of the rs85 is set to v-low, low or high doesn't it force the sweep (I could make with the joystick) into that frequency range of the LFO ?

Re: LFO RS85 question

2010-08-06 by bennethos

they offer a broad range indede , but no easy way of turning a pot to go from ie : 20hz to 0.02hz in one swoop I think. I can't test it though, I don't have the module :-/ .

An EMS synthi has an lfo pot of 10hz to 0.2hz if i'm not mistaken. Something like that I'm looking for.

I assume you would get the capability of a "fixed architecture" synth, which you could patch into a modular (you would probably need a convertor module or adaptor to use with eurorack) although having never seen one of these, not sure you could patch the LFO out independently - next months UK Sound on Sound mag promises a review.

The LFO-NZ from Analogue Solutions would work. .01Hz to 30Hz. Also the
Doepfer VCLFO.
