Re: [bc2000] Re: BCR2000/BC Manager/LIve 8 problems

2010-01-20 by Dan Berridge

Thanks for the response.

Yes, this is a strange one.
I had made an initial error in that the unit was not in USB mode 1. I changed this and managed to get BC Manager to recognise it and load a couple of presets (which even worked in Live). Even so, I think it should have been ok.

This morning, without touching anything, neither BC manager nor Live recognise the unit.
After trying a different usb cable and port on my computer, Windows didn't recognise the unit. After reloading the drivers BC Manager recognises the the BCR but LIve doesn't (BCR is shown in red and there's no response in Mackie Mode)..

What do you think? Should I send it back? This being the second BCR I've had problems with!!
I am about to give up on the whole machine, which is a shame.

First a note about the "twice": this is probably because you get an error for the BCR's input device AND the output device.

BC Manager reports the "Undefined external error" based on what it is being told by BCR's MIDI driver.
This error probably indicates that the USB controller on the BCR is defective (I've had this problem myself, as have several other people - check the message archive of this Yahoo group). If that is the case, all you can do is use the non-USB modes (S-1/2/3/4); or have the BCR replaced, of course (if you're within warranty, you'll probably get a new unit for free, at least that's what I got).

However, it MIGHT be a USB/MIDI driver problem (something gone wrong during installation or so), so one thing you might try is uninstall the BCR's MIDI device driver (e.g. via Device Manager), switch off the computer and the BCR (you know the drill...), then restart and let Windows install its default "USB Audio Device". Then see what BC Manager reports - although my guess is that you still get a similar error.

It might also be a USB cable problem, so you might try using a different cable, although my guess is that this won't help either.

Mark.
