Yes, BC Manager can control the BCR via standard MIDI as well.
In fact, this capability is no particular accomplishment by BC Manager: to ANY computer program, the BCR's USB connection presents itself as standard MIDI input/output "devices".

By the way, connecting the BCR to BC Manager via standard MIDI normally requires TWO MIDI cables, since BC Manager works best in a bidirectional setup.
Whether you should connect to the BCR's MIDI OUT A or OUT B/THRU depends on the BCR's Operating Mode you choose (via Global Setup): if you use S-4 (the preferred setting) you should connect to OUT A, if you use S-3 to OUT B/THRU.
