Ok that rules that out

Ok, most metals expand when heated (as when current passes through them). This 'warming up' problem is often a symptom of a faulty solder joint or a slightly loose connector (on the inside of the BCR) or partial oxide on the connector.
If you are feeling brave, open up the case There are some pics of Steve opening his BCF

The top encoders and buttons are connected by a ribbon cable as I recall. You might like to check that this is seated correctly or even better pull it out and push it back in again. This should help fix both the oxide and the loose connector
Check the solder on the printed circuit board that all wires are connected and that there no strange blobs there. There shouldn't be as I am sure that the boards are wave soldered, but you never know.
Make sure there are no loose components (ie can you wiggle them? - light pressing) particularly the connector socket.

But I thought they were better than human, Art....
Hope this helps

Thanks, Royce. I think my erratic MIDI message
problem is now fixed.
I took my BCR completely apart and seated all
connectors down hard. Interestingly, *all* connections are either soldered or
hot-glued! (So I couldn't *remove* and reseat anything.)
Let's hope it stays this way.
Take care -
