problems....

problems....

2009-01-23 by Hans Holema

Hi guys, my BCR2000 seems to be having problems where it looks like my EDIT button does
not function normally anymore...
Now I found the BC MIDI implementation.pdf online and there's a section that describes
where a button (even the Function buttons) can get different functions...
I was wondering if any of you has a sysex file maybe with which the function buttons are
restored to their original values.
Reloading firmware upgrades and factory presets does not seem to do the job...

Maybe it's lost at all but actually the edit button seems to be the only thing that does not
seem to work but this means I can't get in to edit mode for the encoders/buttons and can't
get into global mode as well...

Any help???

cheers
Hans

Hi Hans

The re-assigning of the EDIT button is in the preset code.
Change the preset (< > buttons) and see if the EDIT is back to normal.
If it still isn't fixed, create an Initial preset. BCManager -> preset
window -> menu Edit/Initialize, and send it to the BC
If it still isn't fixed, then you have a problem.

Let me know how you get on

Royce

Hi Royce

Thanx for the reply - ya well - I'm having a bit of a problem there - I only have Mac
computers and although I use Parallels (a Windows emulator) it won't 'talk' to the BCR.
Would it be possible to save an output of those settings as sysex???

Another idea along the same lines:
Hold the STORE and EXIT buttons while switching on the BCR. The
display should briefly show "Init", meaning you get a "clean"
temporary preset. The EDIT button should then function normally, so if
you then press EDIT + STORE, you should enter global edit mode ("EG"
in the display).

(See "BC MIDI Implementation.pdf" for further information on this
startup mode.)

hmmm I think the problem might be more serious...
I can't get into that mode...
as soon as I have the store button pressed while switching on, the BCR goes into 'LOAD'
mode - no init, no matter if I have the exit key pressed or not :-(

Any other suggestions, guys? (other than calling Behringer... it's just a couple of months
outside warranty and I don't think handling and repair will be better than getting a new one,
price wise....

cheers

Ah, that is REALLY strange: as "BC MIDI Implementation.pdf" (section
20, starting on p. 128) states, the "LOAd" (i.e. bootloader) mode
should ONLY be enterable by holding both STORE and LEARN when you push
the POWER button, so I don't know what's going on here. Just holding
STORE should do nothing; that is: it should lead to the "completely
normal" operating mode (showing "P-" and a preset number).

So it does look as if there's something wrong with your button
hardware (one of them might be stuck or so) - but I'm a bit confused
right now WHICH one(s). In your original post you wrote that only your
EDIT button didn't work, so that would indeed seem to be the culprit,
but I have no idea if (let alone how) that could affect the operation
of the STORE and EXIT buttons.
Do your STORE, LEARN and EXIT buttons respond normally in other
circumstances? (You might try some of the functions describe in BCMI
section 21.) And do their LEDs work?)

And what do you see when you start the BCR up normally? It SHOULD
briefly show the version number (preferably "1.10") before going to
"P-" plus a preset number.

One other thing you might try: perform all these startup varieties
with ALL cables (standard MIDI and USB) detached. Does that change
anything?

It's really a pity you can't run BC Manager from your Mac: BC Manager
is capable of doing some diagnostics concerning connection mode,
global settings etc. (E.g. it will recognize bootloader mode.) Can't
you find a Windows computer and test your BCR + BC Manager there? -
that may tell you a few things more about the nature and extent of the
problem.
