Mackie and Hui or Baby Hui are MIDI controllers made by other companies (not Behringer). These have been around for a while and have become sort of standards for controlling recording software.
The Behringer BCF and BCR have configurations that "emulate" (act like) the Mackie, Hui, etc. This was a "quick-fix" for Behringer to get their controllers working with a lot of recording software in a short time. It helps especially if your software has built in support for one of those controllers. Then you just tell your softhware that you're using a Hui controller and set the BCx to Hui mode and you're in business.
Another alternative would be for Behringer to work with the software manufacturers to make these products work together perfectly, as Macki has done.
But the beauty of the BCR and BCF is that they CAN be configured so flexibly and to a variety of applications whereas some of these other controllers are basically dedicated to one software
type or family. So each has its advantage.
