BCR2000 cubase and external gear

BCR2000 cubase and external gear

2006-08-09 by bnijsen

Hi all,

I know there are countless topics on the net about the generic remote
function in cubase sx(3), i also adviced the cubase manuals but i
can't seem to find the answer for my problem.

Goal: i want to control my vsti's AND external gear with the bcr thru
cubases generic remote (if possible)

Setting up the controls for the VSTi's is no problem at all, i can
control them and i get feedback from the controls.

BUT, which setting in gen. remote do i have to use for the external
gear? I tried to use the 'midi mixer' options, but cubase doesnt seem
to send the midi data out.

Alternatively i could ofcourse hook up the bcr to my midi-interface
and use this like a kind of patch bay. I just cant understand why it
doesnt work with the generic remote in cubase.

Any help is appriciated :)

cheers,
Bas

Assuming the BCR is connected to the PC and a project exists, here is
how I get mine to work as a generic remote:

1) Power up BCR BEFORE starting Cubase
2) Start Cubase, open project, and go to Devices - Device Setup
3) Choose Generic Remote
4) For MIDI in and MIDI out, choose the BCR device from the list.
5) Setup the following for each line in the list:

    a) Control Names: A friendly name such as 'Kick Volume.'
    b) MIDI Status: Set all to Controller
    c) MIDI Channel: Set all to 1 (or whatever channel the controller is
using.)
    d) Address: Use the corresponding rotary or button control number.
Example: I use Rotary 49 for the kick drum EQ Quality so I set the
address to 49.
    e) Max value to 127.
    f) Set R and T flags so that mouse usage is reflected on the
controller as well.

g)Control Names in the Channel Assignment window will be the same as
the device assignment above.
    h) Set Device to VST Mixer.
    i) Set Channel/Category to the corresponding channel you are
controlling.
    j) Choose the Value/Action from the drop down list such as Volume,
or Pan. All mixer controls are available including EQ.
   k) All flags are blank except for push buttons which I set the Toggle
flag for.

I then click on Apply and Export to an xml file for backup. Once you
have an xml file you can open the file in a text or html editor and
learn how to create your own faster without so much clicking on the
interface...

Good luck! R
