Just though I'd give my thoughts on some of the issues raised.
I have decided to make the overlays non-adheasive for a few reasons
To allow the user to change the overlays quickly and easily.
If the overlays were sticky when not in use they would quickly get
covered in allsorts of stuff ie. fluff, hair, grit. They would soon
become unuseable.
The design of the overlays will fit well round the buttons and
should hopefully 'lock' the overlay in place, however some blu-tack
or thin double sided tape might be needed (I will know better once I
have a prototype)
The thing about 'setting up' a die-cutter. The dies have to be
specially made for each job and are custom.
All the overlays will be supplied blank, with scribble strips
printed onto them (double height 10mm). The user can write on them
as they please. They can be written on with a pencil/wax pencil to
provide a wipe off, and reuse, or a pemanent marker and highlighter
pen to provide colour and make the writing permanent.
I like the idear about using a home printer to print on them. This
is infact a brilliant Idear (thanks mate). I will look into making a
template of some sort maybe for word, as its the one I use and I
think alot of people will have it installed.
I dont know of that plastic from the 80's (sounds good though). I am
looking into getting thesr overlays made in .25mm plastic to allow
decent clearance for the buttons.
