BCR2000 on Windows 7 x64 and MIDIOX

2010-12-26 by dsimag

Hi all,
Sorry if this was asked (and hopefully answered) before, but I simply cannot make BCR2000 to work on new 64-bit Windows 7. Here are the facts:
- Win7 64bit, with all latest updates installed
- BCR2000 with Behringer's 64-bit driver 1.0.10
- MIDIOX 7.0.0.365
- BC Manager - latest release
I cannot get either BC Manager nor MIDIOX to detect BCR. In Windows device manager everything seems to be OK - it says "device is working properly". MIDIOX reports external error, and BC Manager reports that it cannot detect any units.
I would appreciate any suggestion and help!
Thanks,
Dubravko

Hard to say, in particular since I myself don't have a 64-bit machine yet (let alone Win7 64-bit + Behringer's 64-bit driver).

However, since neither BC Manager nor MIDI-OX can access your BCR, my best guess is that the USB controller on your BCR is defective. In particular the "external error" message seems to indicate this.
But it might also be a setup problem concerning the 64-bit USB driver.

Just to exclude some of the more innocent setup problems:

In BC Manager, do you see the Behringer I/O devices listed under (from the main window:) Options -> MIDI devices -> Input and Output?
The Behringer I/O devices should have checkmarks there.

In the FAQ section of BC Manager manual, take a look at p. 81, question 3, and the question on pp. 84-85, in particular the paragraph about trying a standard MIDI connection.
If BC Manager CAN access your BCR via a standard MIDI connection, the hypothesis that the BCR's USB controller is defective becomes more likely.

Hope this helps,
Mark.

I did as you suggested and yes - BCR works OK through standard MIDI interface. I was prepared to leave it this way. I use BC manager only for txt->syx conversion, so the fact that BCMgr doesn't see BCR didn't bother me too much.

And then, don't ask why, I tried to plug BCR's USB cable into different port. And it worked! Looking at motherboard's documentation I found source of my problems - it's USB3! When I plugged it into USB2, it worked without a glitch! Just for the reference, motherboard is Gigabyte 890GPA-UD3H.

So, as an advice or hint to everybody in this group - if you're having problems with 64-bit USB driver for BCR2000, make sure you use USB2 port!

Cheers,
Dubravko

Well, in any case you can be glad that your BCR's USB controller isn't defective!

Actually the BCF and BCR don't even require USB 2: USB 1.1 suffices.

But your suggestion that Behringer's 64-bit BCn2000 driver is incompatible with USB 3 is pretty shocking.
I have no way to verify this hypothesis, but it sounds possible.

If other people experience the same problem with USB 3, maybe someone should contact Behringer: if confirmed, this problem is of course totally unacceptable.

Has anyone else tried to use a BCF/BCR in a USB 3 port (under either a 32-bit or 64-bit Windows OS)?

Mark.
