Feedback from my synth to the BCR-2000

2013-11-22 by <gregshawdj@...>

Hiya guys I currently have my BCR-2000 loaded with a template for my ATC-1 analogue synth and have them both connected using midi cables. The BCR is controlling the synth well and I even have my midi keyboard going into the BCR where it merges the signal great stuff :-) What I was wondering was, is it possible to get the ATC-1 to send its preset settings to the BCR so that all of the encoder lights change when different presets are selected? This would help loads because at the moment all the encoders stay at zero when new patches are selected on the ATC or via the BCR. Hope you can help Thanks Greg

Hi Greg

this is the 'big ask' for the BC.

Unless the synth will output all its values in CC (continious controller) messages the BC can understand the data.

Usually the patch data is output as System Exclusive (sysex) and the definition of what is in the sysex message is up to the manufactures of the synth so there is no way Behringer could allow for this for every synth out there.

The only way to do it is write a PC program that sits between the BC and the synth.

I have done this for the Korg DW6000 and the Yamaha 4op synths like the TQ5.

See my web site www.bwalk.com.au to see it in action.

Hello Royce

Thanks for your reply. I've had a look at your site and the program you have written looks really good. Exactly what i was looking for. I was wondering what information would i need to know to be able to get my ATC to work with this software? I'm pretty sure the ATC-1 only outputs SysEx.

Also does this software work on a mac?

Thanks Greg

Hi Greg,
The programs were an experiment for me and the vidoes were to show what you could do with a BC.

The software is written just for the Korg DW6000 and there is another video for a Yamaha TQ5.

The Korg one only works on the DW6k, but as there was a lot of common sysex messages with the 4 op synths like the DX21 etc a lot of these should also work.

Writing a generic program to cover a few synths is really difficult let alone all synths and so there needs to be a separate application for each synth.

In short, my software won't work with the ATC-1 and you would need to write a program for your ATC-1.

Will it run on a Mac... there are ways to run PC programs on the Mac if you want to try mine out, but you would need a DW6k or a 4op Yamaha..

Royce,

I too was having the same issue with my KORG DSS-1 today. Is there any way to configure you awesome app to work with the sysex messages for the KORG DSS-1?

Yes there is.
But as each synths implementation of parameter change by sysex or CC is different, you need what is essentially a rewrite of the program.

As I don't have a DSS-1 it looks like you will have to write an app yourself.
At least you know it is possible. 8)

Sorry
