Hi
I've looked at all the editors on the site and birdie seems the most promising. This was far better than the Java one Behringer offered, but the author was unaware of all the hidden things under the hood of the BC and so his editor only covers the things that are editable from the front panel of the BC.
This means you miss a lot !!!!
But, perhaps this is all you need for your purposes.
The amount of work people must put into freeware editors is quite amazing!
It is. Feel free to contribute. 8)
Is there a help file or guide to the screen anywhere?
As I remember it is complete, so if there isn't a help file there isn't a help file.
I don't understand the meaning of e-groups / snapshot / fkeys/ lock / init / request or what tOn tOFF mean.
e-groups : the top row of encoders (with buttons) can, in effect, be 4 groups of 8 encoders + 8 buttons. You page them in using the 4 buttons on the top right
snapshot : you can output the current values of all the controls
fkeys : are the STORE LEARN EDIT & EXIT buttons - they can also be programmed like any other button but you loose the normal function.
lock : if this is off the next/previous (< >) buttons select the next/previous preset. When on these become two more buttons to program.
init : clear the preset
request and snapshot : when you select a preset, move the controls, select a different preset and then you select the first preset again all the controls are where you left them. The BC only resets to the default parameters when you power on. So if you have 2 or more presets that you are swapping between you might want to make sure you are syncronised with the machine you are controlling so request is on means that when the preset is selected output all the values. Pressing EDIT + LEARN will do the same at any time whether on not request is ON.
NOTE: request and snapshot are similar, but different. See Marks BCL document for the details.
I don't know what tOn or tOff are either.
Perhaps you should head off to Mark's website and pick up a copy of his editor but more importantly his BC language document to explain all there is know (or really, all we know).
I've read that birdie was bought professionally, is this version available?
This is the only version as far as I know. I did write to the author and he was very generous about the whole thing and allowed us to hold the files here, but made no mention of any other material.
Get Mark's profession version of his editor.
It is the same as the one everyone else has only you donate some money to stop him shivering in the cold European winter.
Me, I'm getting ready to go down the beach for a swim. 8)
All the best
