Adding a third BC

Adding a third BC

2015-05-19 by Richard Stephen Melhuish

At present I have one BCF running in USB Mode 4 (usb to my computer) and a
Second BCR hooked up to the first unit via midi cables (Stand Alone Mode 3).
This system is working fine but I am curious as to how to hook up this 3rd.
BC when it shows up! I am in bc mode and using Live 9. Thanks for helping
out an aging Brit :) richard

Hi Richard. I don't think this will help you; but i would like to let you know that i usw 2x BCR2000 Over usb mode to Work in Cubase. The machines are available there both unser different names. So i guess you Can connect your third machine the same way.

Thanks Jan, I am waiting for my 3rd unit but I just found this on line. I will give this a try as well as your suggestion! . Not sure about the Midi Merger but I have a Midi Sport 2x2 that I think will accomplish the same thing as the Mid Merger(2 Midi in and One Midi Out). Anyway I will repost what works, in case anyone else is curious.

You got it. You need another midi patchbay. The fastest way is to connect just the third to it. The more elegant would be to connect all 3.
Keep in mind the 3rd bc2000 might not been seen as a bc but as midi port *. I have d p ne this with 2 bcfs and one bcr.

Thanks Dylaneme, I have a Midi Sport so I will try and merge 2 of the BCFs
into one. Fun!! I will post back what works best. Thanks mateys :)

Hi Richard,
I have 4 BC units connected up.

BC1 MIDI Out-> BC2 Midi In -> BC2 Midi Out -> BC3 Midi In -> BC3 Midi Out -> BC4 Midi In -> BC USB Midi Out

BC1, 2 & 3 in Solo-1 mode and BC4 in USB-4 mode.

BC4 is a BCF and all the rest are BCR, but you can mix and match however you want.
Propagation delay through the units is not noticeable.

No need for any extra Midi interfaces.

All the best
Royce

I should mention that the BC units automatically merge the input data with whatever control changes happens on the unit and output this data via the Midi ports in Solo-1 mode and to the computer in USB-4 mode.

This means you can have as many units as your bank manager will allow, all in e S-1 mode with the last in USB-4 mode.

Hi, Royce, just wondering: does each unit intelligently merge data from its MIDI in with its own internally generated MIDI messages? Otherwise, you shouldn't twiddle knobs/faders on two(+) devices at the same time, or you would send out some really garbled MIDI... thoughts?

OK, asked and answered all in the same minute - that's good, didn't know the BCs could do that...

Just thought I would let you know what worked best for me. I had a M Audio Midi Sport that merged a the two outs from the two BCF’s in S4 mode. Main BCF was set in U4 mode. All works like a charm !!
