Hmm... newbie here, can't get MIDI out

2018-06-07 by duckdive@...

I've been reading about different stuff about my BCR2000s. I bought two of them online from two different people.

They are both at 1.10 firmware. They power up. They are detected on my Mac (Audio/MIDI) and in Live.

I can use the Edit & Store buttons to get to Global Setup to change the USB/Standalone modes on both of them. I have detected both of them with BCManager, and also changed the mode that way as well. I've also run the BCManager hardware test without issue. I've even reloaded the firmware.

Yet, I'm unclear if they are working. Because I cannot get any MIDI to be sent to Live. All I really want to do is to be able to use all of the knobs to MIDI map Live & Reaktor VST.

I've tried MIDI Monitor to see if any messages can be detected either on USB (modes) or via Standalone (modes) with DIN to two different soundcards with MIDI in. In both cases, I do not see anything in MIDI Monitor or even in Live (in the little box in upper right).

I hope that this is something easy that is a RTFM type thing. I browsed through the manual, but I don't see anything that helps.

Can anybody advise?

Do not know if it helps . Cause I only run one BCF2000 ... I just turn it off , turn it back on holding down 3 & use it in logic mode . To control faders ..... Otherwise go into the settings on Live & make sure you are setting a controller up .. Like Prefrences/Settings & Controller ..... Other than that , I can tell you that the BCF will work right after a month of playing around .... Lol ! Not kidding ! It took me a month before I was actually using mine ....

I was going to run a BCR2000 for Plugins . But after a lot of research I went with the Nektar P1 .. Because of the screen that tells you everything when you are programming it .... But, On the BCF , Make sure your using midi out as midi in & midi in as midi out .. If your using midi cables ... Cause In is out & our is in ... But, you probably already know that . Old MIDI Saying as it were ..

Perhaps a silly question, but does the BC have valid preset data?

When you turn the encoders does it have a value displayed in the LEDs top right?
(This display can be turned off, so no display is no big deal, but if there is, it would indicate that there is something in the preset)

Go into edit mode from the front panel (hold the EDIT button and then twist the encoder you want to edit then release them)
Twist encoder 1 (top left) to select CC , enc2 to select a channel, enc3 set to 7, enc4 set to 0, enc5 set to 127, enc 6 to abs(solute) and enc 8 to turn on the display.
Push EXIT and see if you get values displayed and Midi out as you twist the control.

I hope that is all it is.

Well, that was it. I guess I really need to dig into the BC Manager info.

For now, all I really want is for all knob encoders to be on.

I was able to send a Preset 1 where I selected all rows and used the CC toolbar icon. They all light up and can be MIDI mapped in Live.

One odd thing, is that the rotary LED of encoder #6 for the bottom three rows of encoders moves for any encoder in that row.

When two or more encoders' LEDs move in sync it means that they are programmed for the same Midi message.
That is, if you programmed all the top row encoders to be CC7 on channel 3 then you will get this effect.
It is because of the excellent part of the BCR that allows for external control (ie change Live on the PC and the BC keeps in sync).

To stop it, just reprogram the encoders to a different Midi message (eg CC type or channel)

Glad you sorted it out.

Feel free to pop over to Mark's forum as I am ( and I suspect Mark is ) not here very often.
