SysEx receiving problems / USB driver problem

SysEx receiving problems / USB driver problem

2007-12-17 by k0mp0

I'm having problems sending presets to my BCR2000. It's a problem I've
had for a long time that comes and goes. The problem is that it just
doesn't accept incoming presets at all, but other functions work fine.

It doesn't display the usual circling line display when presets are
being receiving to the unit.

Does anyone have any experience with this kind of behaviour or am I
all on my own here!?

I'm using the latest driver - v1.2.1.3, and the latest firmware -
1.10, on both units and I usually use Birdies BCFRedit 0.41 but I've
tried other tools like MIDI-OX and Bome's Send-SX, but nothing gets
through.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks,
-k0mp0

Hi kOmpO

What is your global MIDI setting?
U-1 to U-4, S-1 to S-4

Hold 'Edit' , press 'Store'
Twist encoder 1 (top left) gently or you'll change it to something else.

Hi rpcfender,

I've tried it on all four of the USB modes, none of them make a
difference!

Let's see if we can get closer to the problem.

What is your software version?
Have you tried the MIDI in port?
Swap your MIDI cables to see if one of them is the problem.
When you say it comes and goes, what changes - ? BCR reboot/power off ?
PC reboot? Hot days? BCR on for a long time?
When it doesn't accept a preset will it change an encoder display with
MIDI in CC ?

Is the preset being sent by my editor ?
Does the preset start with $rev F1 ? (this is for the BCF)

Re: SysEx receiving problems / USB driver problem

2007-12-18 by k0mp0

It is the same in any software version. This is only a problem with
USB, the MIDI IN port (sending through my BCF2000) sends SysEx fine.

When I can't send SysEx, the unit works just as normal through MIDI
ports and I can see the unit will change values in the display and
will send and receive CC's normally to software and I can use the
device fine via MIDI cables. But recently I've found I need to keep
the units separate for certain applications, so I need them both
running via USB, which means fixing the BCR's problem.

It's not a problem with cables as MIDI cables don't make a difference
while in USB mode, but I have tried changing the USB cable and this
didn't correct it.

I think the problem stats when I send a SysEx to the wrong System ID
(Birdies editor sometimes doesn't find the correct Sys ID of the unit
and displays it as 0xF7.) If I don't notice the wrong Sys Id and
proceed to send, it messes it up.

I used to be able to fix it sometimes when I disabled the driver,
(which makes XP bluescreen), then rebooted, then turned the unit off
and back on again, uninstalled the driver, rebooted again, installed
the driver as per directions that come with the driver.... I tried
this 4 of 5 times the other day and it just wouldn't work, so it would
be good if I could clean the registry of the old drivers or something.

-k0mp0
