The old Serge circuits are interesting for historical reasons, but
hardly worth cloning in my opinion. They are quite simple. I had
access to some Serge's and assembled several for other people back in
the seventies. My favorite Serge modules were the "Smooth and Stepped
Generator" and the "Dual Slope Generator." The cool part about them was
how they could be patched in lots of different ways to get different
functions. I did not so much like the panel approach taken by Serge,
which consisted of paper with a plastic overlay on an aluminum box,
resulting in a permanent arrangement of a set of modules per box. They
did sport a unique and recognizable - but somewhat cryptic - graphic design.
Ken Stone has modernized takes on several Serge ideas, and you'll get
better modules starting with Ken's PC boards. The CGS29 Wave Multiplier
is a really great sounding modulator. The Analog Shift Register is very
cool. The VCO is similar to the ASM1 VCO, which was in turn based on an
Electronotes VCO. All very good circuits.
