CGS 114 - Improving 1V/ Oct tracking on DUSG.

2012-05-26 by Stephen Richards

Hi Ken

It's TCB day on the BOCGS panel...

I was about to do the mod mentioned here :

http://www.muffwiggler.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=495151&highlight=#495151

For improving 1V/ Oct tracking.

When i looked at the schematic and then the PCB overlay it seems the 1.8K in the schematic is marked as a 1.5K on the overlay.

Am i right in assuming the 1.5K is the one i'm changing out if i'm going ahead with this mod ?

Yes, the 1k5 resistor connected to the 82k connected to pad E is the correct
resistor to be messing around with.

Would i wire it : resistor > outer leg of trimmer > trimmer wiper to remaining resistor pad > leave other side (outer) trimmer leg unconnected ?

If I understand you, yes. You are putting the trimmer in series with the
existing resistor. Only two connections to the trimmer are needed.

That modification does work very well. :) My USGs are tracking wonderfully
over at least 2 octaves. I'm fairly sure, 3 octaves. (In the bass
frequencies. They're wonderful for using as bass range VCOs. :) )

(Gotta get more of them. 4 isn't enough. :o )

Thanks Richard ! Great advice on both posts. I did tune it down in the bass on the DUSG.

May have to check out the VCO calibration process a bit further , later.
