Installing both is what it says to do.

experiment with values anywhere from 1 meg to o ohm (resistor omitted). ".
0 ohms and omitting a resistor don't seem to be the same thing, so I'm bit
confused. In the part where Peter says to stuff the two LPGs differently,
should we omit the resistor on one, or short it out?

Yes, resistor omitted is definitely NOT 0 ohms! it would be "resistor
replaced with link".
