DUSG Wiring

DUSG Wiring

2015-11-17 by ithaib

Hi all,

I'm wiring up a DUSG PCB to my panel and following Ken's instructions on his site.

Please correct if I'm wrong but:

MB on the schematic is RISE

MA on the schematic is FALL

the Wiring table on the same page lists them the other way around. Which to follow?

Also:

DCO is MAIN OUT

D goes to BIPOLAR OUT

What is BPO (AC COUPLED OUT)?

Lastly, I've seen some pics of builds where F and FC are not connected. such as:

https://www.muffwiggler.com/forum/userpix2/10087_quad_slope_02_1.jpg

Does that look right and if so, how? Or again should I just follow the wiring table?

Its my first CGS Board, sorry if this is obvious or previously covered somewhere.

Thanks!

If you look at the schematics you see that F and FA are the same, so no need for two wires.
And FC is ground/ 0V

About the rise/fall. Both schematics and wiring table are right.
Schematics: When you turn the switch to "rise" in the sch. you connect ground to the "fall-side" and the other way around.
Maybe someone else can explain this better in real english :-)

Regarding MA MB: follow the table and the diagrams at the top of the page. You can't really go wrong here. If the behavior of the switch is reversed when you test the circuit, simply invert the two wires, or turn the switch by half turn.

DCO gives you a DC coupled signal which is always positive: useful for envelopes and such. Works also for oscilators. Not good if you want negative modulation for fm,
AC coupled out is centered around 0. Good for negative modulations

I did not use D.

The diagrams here may be usefu http://www.diophantine.net/synth/bocgs/bocgs-wiring.html There is the DUSG.

If you disconnect F or FC the VC in won't work. I doubt you want that.

OK thanks, that clarifies things.

So using either DCO or BPO for OUTPUT is personal preference? Do you guys ever wire one half of the pcb to DCO and the other to BPO?

I do plan on using D so that I can have a BIPOLAR OUPUT. Wouldn't that cover the negative modulations as well? I *think* it should output +/-2.5v

Thanks again.

What I mean is I could use DCO for MAIN OUT and also wire D for BIPOLAR OUT.

I suppose I should experiment..

Use both of them. Drill an extra hole in the panel.
I have six DUSGs in my system and four of them have both outputs.
Or you can use a switch to toggle between DCO and BPO

My panel is 5U with zero room for another jack, but I can definitely drill a hole for a switch.

You can always use a pull pot switch. Then you wouldn't need another hole.

Finished it, what a great module. Only beginning to explore...

Question - I'd also like to add a switch that would short END to TRIG - would that be just an SPST switch that connects the tips of those two jacks? Anything unusual to consider when doing this? For example if the switch is on and either of them have patch cables inserted etc..? Can't really think of anything..

Thanks,
Ithai

If the switch is on, don't insert anything into the input jack, as that would effectively short two outputs together.
