TL082 for an LM358?

TL082 for an LM358?

2004-04-02 by Mike Marsh

Hi All -

Can I substitute the TL082 for the spec'd LM358 in the DC Mixer.
They seem to have the same specs and pinouts...

Thanks!

Mike

You can. Even better would be a TL072. I think the later boards actually
have that specified.

Thanks, Ken. Pardon my huge ignorance, but why is an 072 better?
Obviously, I can get those, too...

Thanks,

Here is what Tony Allgood said about this on the Oakley list --

Once upon a time the TL07X were lower noise versions of the TL08X types.
The 08X types had lower offsets, so you would need to weigh up which
spec was more important to you. Inevitably, the the 07X series ended up
being used for audio.

But, I don't think there is a difference these days. Both devices appear
to have the same spec. TI [and others] just badge up the same part with
the different names to keep the company buyers happy.

better device specs. The TL07X are low noise devices. Sometimes TL07X are
rebadged and sold as TL08X if the company doesn't have them to hand, but
I've never seen it go the other way, nor would I expect to, As such, it
implies that a TL08X is a TL07X that *may have* failed its low-noise tests.

For just DC, you might also consider the MLX1013, used in the JLH-822
and many MOTM DC applications. Same pinout too. Great for DC. Not
fast enough for high frequency audio.

Thanks, Larry, and to all those that replied. I'm socketing the
chip so I can try different things, and I'll report back. I'm
mixing dc and audio so maybe the 1013 won't work...
