Sounds like they never were fully matched, but since they were similar screens, you didn't know this before...
After calibrating each monitor separately (first calibrated the
default monitor, then disabled that monitor and calibrated the other
monitor), and loading the profiles (they ARE being changed
independently of each other), they are grossly mismatched.
See comment above... also I note you are using Express, or some package not actually designed for multiple display calibration, or you wouldn't need to use this hack to profile both displays.
