Spyder2 Suite w/ Dual Head ATI card, Win XP, Problem matching

Spyder2 Suite w/ Dual Head ATI card, Win XP, Problem matching

2008-04-13 by jp_individual

Hello,

I have dual monitors running off of a single ATI video card. Until
Dell replaced one of my LCD monitors, I've had no problems. Now, since
the replacement is a different (more recent model) LCD screen, I
cannot get my Spyder 2 Suite to calibrate both monitors to match.

After calibrating each monitor separately (first calibrated the
default monitor, then disabled that monitor and calibrated the other
monitor), and loading the profiles (they ARE being changed
independently of each other), they are grossly mismatched.

I have calibrated 5 times each with the same result. I have had the
Windows Color Powertoy installed for years, and all evidence suggests
that there are 2 different LUTs operating independently.

A few years ago, I had 2 CRT monitors from different brands, and they
matched fine using this method. Then came the 2 LCD monitors and they
matched fine too (they were the identical model). Then, when one of my
2407WFP monitors was replaced with a 2408WFP, they haven't been able
to match at all.

I'm looking at purchasing another video card, but it doesn't seem to
me that this will solve the issue.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

thanks,

JP

Sounds like they never were fully matched, but since they were similar screens, you didn't know this before...

See comment above... also I note you are using Express, or some package not actually designed for multiple display calibration, or you wouldn't need to use this hack to profile both displays.

Hello,

Thank you for the reply. Do you suggest I get the Spyder 2 Pro for
solve this issue? I don't mind purchasing it, but I would feel gypped
if I spent the extra time/money and found myself in the same
situation. Does ColorVision offer a software upgrade for my Sypder 2
hardware (I didn't see this on the web site recently)?

I tried to match the monitors again (attempt #7). This time, I used
the monitors' backlight and RGB controls to make sure the starting
white point of the monitors were near-matching (within 5-10 K and
cd/m^2). The result was the same problem. The left monitor looks like
an aquarium (blue/green/cyan) compared to the pinkish right monitor. I
have tolerance for mismatching, but these are grossly different.

Any assistance would be appreciated!

thanks,

JP

Spyder2 Pro Studio w/ Dual Head ATI card, Win XP, Problem matching

2008-04-28 by jp_individual

Hello,

I recently upgraded to a Spyder2 Pro Studio to calibrate my dual
monitors. Unfortunately, the result is exactly the same as when I
tried to calibrate with my Spyder2 Suite: one monitor is red compared
to the other monitor which appears relatively cyan.

Does anyone have any further advice to get these monitors to match?

thanks,

JP

The difference between Spyder2 and Spyder2Pro, is that Pro offers custom whitepoints, custom gammas, and the ability to edit target curves. But you should be able to get a color match without going into that. Sounds like you may actually have an issue with both calibrations, or both profiles, not being used. The simplest fix to that is usually to get a low cost second videocard for the second display, to avoid issues with dual head cards.

Hi Randy,

I have 2 Dell LCD monitors side by side: 2407WFP, and a 2408WFP.

I've also tried to calibrate one of the monitors to the target of the
other (the icc profile created for the other monitor).... that
produced the same results again: one red monitor and one green/cyan
monitor (no change from the beginning).

I've ordered another video card to try to solve this ($100 PCIe x1
card since my motherboard doesn't have more x16 slots)...hopefully
that helps.

thanks,

JP
