No problem profiling your laptop without controls other RNA backlight.  
That's very typical. What you can't do is hardware calibrate it. But  
as long as the gamma and whitepoint you choose are fairly close to the  
native ones, software calibration at the videocard, and profiling will  
do the trick nicely.
