Spyder 2 - interesting observation (OT?)

2006-02-26 by bill_hansen20012001

"profile chooser" provides an easy way to tell the difference between
two monitor profiles.

Hope this isn't too far off topic. I've been using the original Spyder
to profile my monitor for about 3-4 years now, and I've been satisfied
with it. After recalibrating with the Spyder 2 a couple of weeks ago,
I initially thought I could not see a difference between the two
calibrations (Spyder 1 vs Spyder 2). It turns out that there's a very
easy way to see that difference, using the "profile chooser" in
PrintFix Suite. Just look at your desktop (or any other multi-colored
image) and click through a few past monitor calibrations. In my case
that meant clicking through a couple of calibrations done during the
past 6 weeks with Spyder 1, and a couple of others done with Spyder 2.
The difference wasn't gigantic, but it was easily noticeable - easily
enough to make a difference in matching photographic prints to the
monitor.

Sure, maybe it isn't a great big deal - but it's interesting, amusing,
and potentially pretty helpful.
