The recommended method is pointing the calibrator at the screen, which factors the screen into the calibration. But you'll get most of the value of the process aiming the calibrator at the projector, with will not factor in the screen. The laptop has less to do with it, though that's where the calibration data and profile will end up stored. Particularly with Mac laptops, you can hand the profile on to other laptops and still get good results. C.
