That's the oint. It doesn't pop back at all. The free piece has two small holes at the bottom. The fixed piece has two larger holes. Holes don't pop into holes. Looking at it I have no idea how it stayed together at all which made me ask if there is a missing piece intended to join the two parts, that would have large pins on one side and small on the other.
