rebooted and got a screen message that there was no monitor profile
other than the default laptop setting from the factory. I searched and
found the profiles for the monitor and I found the profile Spyder
created, but I could not set the laptop to use it. I really would like
to calibrate the laptop but am now at a loss. Can anyone give me some
pointers on how to get the system to recognize the Spyder profile??

My guess from this is that you are on Windows, and have one of those
problem systems where calling Windows to set the profile as the OS
monitor profile fails... (and Windows also fails to send back a
notification when this happens...). If so, then use the Profile Chooser
software that comes with Spyder2PRO to assign the profile as the
monitor profile. If that doesn't do the trick, contact ColorVision
support, and they will run you through all the possible tricks to get
things running.
