Average causes PFP to close

Average causes PFP to close

2006-09-09 by bwinkjet

Hi,

I need help with 2 issues that are related. PSP 1.1.1 on PC XP Pro.

Unless "average profiles" is invoked on the last page (one with the
options to modify a profile using sliders etc.) a message appears and
states "out of bounds and must close. Please report and restart PSP"

When able to start the averaging process the drop downs do not contain
the profiles I wish to average. (They are present, as they appear on
all the other drop down lists)

Any help with this will be appreciated. Thanks.

Paul

I'm a little puzzled.

In PrintFIX PRO 1.1.1, or any previous version (we -are- talking about the
same software, correct? I don't know what PSP is, do you mean PFP?)...

There is no "average profiles" command or control on the page that lets
you build profiles. (The one with the sliders).

There is an Average command in its Tools menu, but that's a separate process
from profile building. That command simply lets you take two measurement
profiles and average them to create a 3rd file of averaged measurements; it
doesn't do anything with profiles themselves at all.

The Tools:Average command also assumes that you have -measurement- files
available to average. If you're running PFP in "PRO" mode, these would
be measurement files in the Data:PRO folder. If you're running PFP in
"PLUS" mode (no spectro, PLUS serial #), these would be any of the existing
measurement files in the Data:PLUS folder.

To repeat: you can't average profiles; only measurement files.

If you're running as PLUS, the Tools:Average command should show a long list
of measurement files in both of the "to-average" popups (these are all of
pre-supplied files).

If you're running as PRO, with a spectro, there aren't any measurement to
average until you've printed targets, measured, and saved some measurement
files.

Hi David,
Thanks for the quick reply. I am sorry I was incomplete and
confusing in my post. PSP was a typo. I am talking about
measurement files created with the spectro.

I have Print Fix Pro, version 1.1.1. I have measured a particular
paper several times with the spectro. Files; Ep2200_IGSG1440,
Ep2200_IGSG1440b and Ep2200_IGSG1440c. These are visable in the pull
down on the Read Patches Page under "existing" When I try to open
the average program (under tools) on this page (Read Patches) the PFP
closes itself after the message I paraphrased in my original post. If
I click on average on any other page the program does NOT close, but
the drop down does not show all of the measured files listed
under "existing measurements", onlyEp220_IGSG1440c and 2 other
papers I have measured but not the b and c version of
Ep2200_IGSG1440. Thus the measurements of the same paper are not
available to average. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,

Paul

Ok, got it!

That would be a bug. (adding it to the (small) list of things that need
to be addressed)

Simple answer: make sure you're not on the Read Patches screen when you
use the Average command. Any other screen; not that one. (At least, until
the next version is out)

>I click on average on any other page the program does NOT close,

Good (that's not a bug)

I have a hunch...

Once you select the first file to average (top popup), then the 2nd popup
is rebuilt, but using only files that "match" the one you've selected in the
top. The important thing here is: # of measurements.

If you select a 729 patch target in the top, then you'll only see other 729
patch targets in the bottom. 225 patches in the top? Only 225 patches are
listed in the bottom.

Does that help...?

I tried renaming the data files (all of which are 729 patch readings
from the same printed patch pages), a b and c to see if the drop down
would allow me to see all three. The drop down showed only "c" which
corresponded to Ep2200_IGSG1440c renamed and the files of other
paper types, and NOT "a" or "b". What puzzles me is that these
measurement files are clearly present in the Pro folder of
ColorVision and present on the drop down on read patches page
("existing" Don't know what to do next.
Thanks,
Paul

I may as well have a look at them..:-)

Can you make a .zip or a .sitx from them, and email the compressed
file to me at davem@...? I'll figure out what the problem
is, and let you know.

You will also need to have two or more measurement sets using the same number of measurements in the folder, in order to run an average command.

Yes, Pro with spectro, same set of patches on 3 pages measured three
times a, b, and c. These measurement files show up in all the drop
downs except when Tools/Average drop down only shows c. Am trying to
send these zipped files to David but not able to attach to message in
this Yahoo group.
Thanks,

Hi all,

My apologies to the list. I have learned I probably failed to read
the white paper as the 729th patch and thus had an incomplete file
which could be used to create a profile, but was not recognized as
complete by the average feature and thus did not show in the drop
down.

Thanks for your tolerance.
