Printer Preview

2006-12-24 by r_sobie

My printer preview screen does not match eithere the CS2 soft proof or
corrected CS2 image. The PFPro profile is selected in the CS2 Print
options window and in the softproof. What to do? In other wards my
profiles do not match what I see in CS2. My screen is calibrated with
SynderPro 2.0Thanks in advance.

You need to download and install PFP 2.0 to have a softproof of your output
show up in PFP's Print Preview screen. The 1.1.1 and earlier versions of
PFP show only a raw, non-color-managed version of the test image, and so
yes, in the older versions, PFP's display in Print Preview doesn't match
the print.

You can get PFP 2.0 from the ColorVision web site here:

http://www.colorvision.com/sup_dl-upgrades.shtml

(After you've built a profile with PFP 2.0, turn on the Softproof box and
you'll see what Photoshop would show you; if you hooked in the profile you've
just built, for Photoshop softproofing; with Photoshop's paper black simulation
turned on).

Happy Holidays to all PFP users, from all of us at ColorVision! :-)

In CS1 and CS2 the Print with Preview screen is not color managed...so it's pot luck if it
matches or not.

But in CS3 beta the Preview screen is color managed!

Ah, I hadn't noticed that yet...!

(but I think he was referring to PFP's Print Preview screen, rather than
Photoshop's).

The preview screen I am referring to is the printer's view of the
image just prior to the actual printing process.

This is not really clear enough to answer. Are you referring to the small print preview at the time you go to print? Or your softproof in Photoshop, with the printer profile selected in Custom Proof Setup? If the latter, then what settings are you using in terms of rendering intent, BPC, and white and black point emulation? If the former, what types of inks, paper, and printer are you using, as some combinations (such as MIS UT3D inks) are not expected to preview at all accurately in the Print Preview window. And finally, the print preview window in the driver is not really intended as a serious softproof, though for simple situations it tends to be fairly accurate.
