Spectro measurement sounds

2007-04-16 by dealy663

Hi,

What is the significance of the sounds that the PFP program makes when
taking measurements? Normally there are two clicks one at the
beginning and one at the end of each measurement. The first click
always happens, but sometimes (maybe 2% of the time) the second
finishing click doesn't happen. It looks like the measurement did
occur, but I always backup the cursor and remeasure that patch
whenever the second sound doesn't happen.

What does this mean?

Thanks, Derek

Given that the LED on the spectro goes out, and the patch on screen turns an appropriate color, I would have to assume that the glitch is in the sound system somehow; that the sound just didn't make it from the application to the speakers. I'd be willing to guess that this is on Windows, not Mac?

Mine has always acted that way (two clicks - sometimes only one). As for a
glitch in the sound system, the spectro is the only peripheral that seems to
be affected. Running XP Pro SP2. Never been a problem but it's interesting
to know that it should NOT work that way - I'll have to do some tweaking!!

i'm using Panther and i have heard all the clicking sounds (like a
shutter on a camera) during my patch readings. no issues have come up
so far while using it.

Yes this is on Windows, but I doubt its a glitch in the sound system.
No other application has problems with the sound. I just wanted to
know if the lack of the second sound was indicative of an improper
patch reading.

My implication was not that your sound system was bad, just that the only place where I have experience "hiccoughs" in the measurement sounds was under Windows. What element causes this is a bit of a mystery; USB communication would be my guess. But as you say, now that you know it does not imply a bad measurement, you can just keep going.
