L-Star workflow checkbox in Spyder3Print preferences

L-Star workflow checkbox in Spyder3Print preferences

2007-11-21 by marko.mili

I am trying to understand effects of L-Star workflow checkbox in
Spyder3Print preferences. My understanding is that L-Star affects
response curve for display calibration, and that is has no effect on
printing - that is, print made from, say, Photoshop, with certain
settings in print dialog and print driver, should look the same
regardless of whether the display uses L-Star or Gamma 2.2 or no
calibration at all. Documentation page on preferences dialog has no
mention of this checkbox. Does anyone know?

Checking this box will not effect target printing or measuring. It only
effects profile building. Using the checkbox should produce profiles that are in
tune with an L-Star workflow, meaning they are tuned to print well from an
L-Star space. It won't make any difference for many uses, or images... for others
(those with difficult out of gamut content, mostly) it may offer subtle
improvements over not checking the box, when used from L-Star. Not a big deal, but
since we were instituting L-Star in our display calibration software, adding
it to Spyder3Print for L-Star fans seemed like a good idea. If you aren't an
L-Star workflow user, just ignore it.
