Help calibrating with Spyder2PRO

Help calibrating with Spyder2PRO

2008-11-13 by tech4x5

I am using a spyder2PRO 2.2-4 to calibrate a Dell 2407 WFP-HC monitor.
I first set my monitor to it's default values. At the start of the
calibration process when I try and adjust the White Luminance to get a
Colorimeter CIExyY value of about 120-130….do I adjust the monitor's
Brightness or Contrast setting? I know the White Luminance is
controlled by contrast and not brightness. But changes with either
control with effect the colorimeter value. Which should I use? This
is only the initial adjustment I realize, then I go through the
calibration process. Thanks.

Use your backlight control to adjust white luminance, if your display has such a control. Some displays call this brightness, others call it backlight; its only if the display has both brightness and contrast, but NOT backlight are you in potential trouble deciding what control to use. In that case, see which control makes the white in the cursor become darker and lighter (if it messes with the screen, but not the cursor, its not adjusting the backlight). The one that makes the white in the cursor brighter and darker is your actual luminance adjustment.
