Two displays attached

Two displays attached

2009-02-10 by Nathan Gutman

Do I understand this correctly?
Using WinXP and Spyder2Pro Studio. I have a laptop with an LCD display. A CRT is attached to the laptop as a second display.
Do I need to create two profiles, one for the LCD and another for the CRT. I do photo editing using Photoshop Elements 5.
I can set in Windows a default profile so when using the CRT do I need to make the CRT's profile a default?
When using the laptop's LCD display without the CRT do I need to make the CRT's profile a default?
Thanks for clarification,

You will need to profile both (if you care about having the laptop
screen profiled). But they are very different screen types, so
matching them isn't really going to happen. PC laptop videocards don't
usually have the capacity to assign LUTs to each display individually,
so you will probably need to assign the currently appropriate profile
using the Profile Chooser utility, switching as needed.

The Profile Chooser seems to be picky. It seems to only work with profiles created by Spyder. If I want to use it to pick another profile it gives me an error message.
Could I do the switching using Control Panel>Appearance and Themes>Display>Settings>Advanced>Color and set a different profile as default?
As always thank you for your help,
Nathan

Profile Chooser is designed for our profiles, yes. It does work with
some others, but not all, as not all use the same tags and methods. I
think you would need to download the MS color management utility to
switch, if you are switching to profiles from other sources. Thats an
XP tool, it does not work with Vista. The problem with switching
profiles at the OS level (on Windows) is that it changes the profile,
but does not change the LUTs. I don't really see a need for third
party profiles, except for experimentation; so for practical purposes,
Profile Chooser does the trick.
