I'm posting this to a quickly grabbed bunch of groups, I'm sure I've missed a few, but some of you will still get multiple copies of it (my apologies).

Bruce Herman's of the Alaska Apple User's Group has written an interesting review of Spyder3Studio. It can be found at:

He gives the product "5 Moose"; it being Alaska, and all. I can't resist posting a few quotes from his review:

I continue to be surprised that more people do not calibrate and profile their computer display and their printer/paper combinations. This is a critical issue for getting the results that you intend.

Spyder3Studio SR is the easiest package to understand and use that I have tested.

You can start using Spyder3Studio SR without knowing anything and then learn as you go. Each screen has a “Help” button at the top right that takes you to a page that includes both basic and more detailed information about that particular step in the process. Datacolor’s documentation is very well written.

The most improved component of the software is the printer paper profiling. Now you can explicitly choose to use the combined color and extended grays targets with the resulting linear workflow that incorporates both targets.

A second area of improvement is the speed for reading the targets. It feels as if the time to measure each patch is a third to one half the time previously required.

Display calibration has always been a straightforward process with the Spyder software and this has not changed.

Spyder3Studio SR is not inexpensive, but it is a great value when compared to its competitors. This is definitely a 5 moose product.

Thanks, Bruce!

Sorry, this went out with the incorrect title; and also sorry for the multiple reposts this will cause...

I own datacolor products and I am in total agreement with this

Any owner of S3Print (or even the older PrintFIX PRO, which uses the
same patch reader) can upgrade to the Spyder3Print SR software for
free. But that doesn't get them strip reading, just all the other
improvements.

Anyone who already owns Studio only needs the new SR version of Print
(they don't need another metal case, with another copy of Elite in
it)... so its really a special on Print SR for existing owners that we
would be talking about. We just released Print SR in December, and are
still trying to meet demand. Once we have caught up, I would expect
that we will be offering some such Print SR offer to existing owners;
but don't hold your breath, demand is suprisingly high, and catching
up with it isn't easy!
