HP Officejet j 6410 - profiling

HP Officejet j 6410 - profiling

2010-03-11 by emaq72

Dear all,

My printer is the HP Officejet J6410 all-in-one model. I am interested in obtaining the spyder product for printer profiling.

Following various instructions on doing profiling, to set up the printer, it is specified that Color Management should be turned to off. In the tab for this control of my printer I cannot find any means to turn this off and infact I can only see two options which are either colorsmart/sRGB or Adobe RGB (1998). I have the latest driver from HP installed on my computer and use Photoshop CS3 to process my photos on Win XP.

So in this case, can a correct profile be obtained? If so, what settings shall I use in PS and the printer dialogue both when printing the targets and also when profiling is complete and I want to print my photos.

Look forward to your reply.
Thanks
Emann

All in ones are a compromise in many ways. But I've found it fairly
easy to profile them, if you print from an application with color
management. Choose either of the settings (I'd prefer AdobeRGB) and
print the targets. Then choose the profile in Photoshop (or other
color managed app) and print using the same driver setting as when you
built the profile. Should do the trick.

Dear Mr. Tobie,

thank you for your reply.

Can you kindly confirm the following steps please in view of my lack of experience:

1. Print target with Photoshop color management off and printer driver on AdobeRGB and profile.

2. Install profile in photoshop.

3. Print photos with printer driver as AdobeRGB but the photoshop manages color or some other setting here in the application?

Thank you for your help

Correct

Well, the profile will automatically show when you print from
Photoshop, its just a matter of selecting it.

Photoshop manages color is a Photoshop printing setting, in the driver
you would choose the same setting as when you printed the targets.
That should work for most simple drivers (like all-in-ones and
lunchbox printers). If not, you might have to resort to more advanced
settings to fool the system into not doing another transform. But that
all depends on the driver, the OS version, and the Photoshop version,
etc...

thanks for the response.

just still a bit unsure on the answer to point 3 below. when printing photos i will then keep the following settings:

1. PS manages color
2. Printer profile - the one created when profiling with the target
3. Printer color management - AdobeRGB same as when creating the profile.

look forward to your reply and then off to prepare an order for the spyderprint
