Well, yes; or we wouldn't have gone to all the expense and effort of
creating it! The fact is that a brand new Spyder3 will do a pretty good job
calibrating most displays, especially the more typical, long standing types.
Where Spyder4 will stand out is with problem displays, new technology
display types, extra wide gamut screens, and a few other more challenging
devices. But also, the ability to fine two side by side displays to a
perfect match is something the has long been requested, and which may be the
killer feature in Spyder4Elite. And over time, the newer filters used in
Spyder4 will be much more stable, especially if you pressure cook your
Spyders (as those in some climates can't avoid doing). So accuracy and
consistency will be much tighter over time with the new Spyders.
So for the inevitable question: "I have a Spyder3, do I need to upgrade to a
Spyder4?" the answer will in part be: it depends on your displays, and in
part be: it depends on how compulsive you are about side by side matching,
and in part depend on whether you bought your Spyder3 last week, or several
years ago. So your mileage, as the saying goes, may vary...
