Spyder 3 Pro and Windows 7 64bit not behaving 100%

Spyder 3 Pro and Windows 7 64bit not behaving 100%

2012-07-09 by GrahamM

Hi,

The colour of the tray icon no longer goes green and periodically during the day the screens change their appearance. Its like the calibration gets lost and then comes back some time later. The difference is just like viewing the before and after with the switch button after the initial calibration.

This has been since I upgraded from version 3.x to 4.0.2 of Spyder 3 Pro.

I have tried leaving the spyder connected and in its cradle. Makes no difference.

When I right click the tray icon, it has always ticked "Calibration On".

And the calibration has worked well with both monitors very close in terms of colour and brightness.

System is an Asus N53SV notebook. i7 - 8MB ram - Windows 7 professional 64bit - service pack 1
Monitors: notebook 15" widescreen and Acer V243HL via HDMI

In Device manager both monitors are "Generic PnP Monitor" and both connected to Intel HD Graphics family.

In Device manager I have 2 Display Adapters: Intel HD Graphics family and NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M - not sure why the NVIDIA is not connected to one or both of the monitors.

Any ideas why this is happening?

Thanks David,

I lodged a support ticket and the problem seems to be resolved. I found you support people very helpful.

The long and short of it is that I needed to:-
- disable the resident Intel control panel services in windows startup. Although this on its own did not resolve the issue.
- update the drivers for both the on-board Intel and nVidia graphics adapters.

I also learned the status colors of the utility icon....
- black Spyder: everything is okay
- orange Spyder: either the Spyder is not connected or you are currently running the Spyder3-Application
- red Spyder: something happens with your calibration - if you have turned on the ambient light measurement and the ambient light changed or the recalibration time has been reached.

I am posting this here for others to find if they have the same issue.

Cheers, Graham
